Adjusta-Column

The method of attaching the Adjusta-Column assembly to the load carrying member and the footing is regulated by local building codes.

The installation procedures listed below are only the manufacturer's suggested methods.

To comply with F.H.A. and B.O.C.A. requirements, the adjustable screw unit must be made permanently inoperable after installation. The Adjusta-Column is to be installed vertically plumb, either end up, on a footing capable of carrying the imposed load. F.H.A. requires adjustable unit to be encased in concrete after final adjustment.

Installation Procedures Suggestions

  1. Choose correct model and size required for your application.
  2. Adjust screw unit to approximate length necessary to fit between footing pad and bottom of beam. (Do not exceed 4" of adjustment.)
  3. Position Adjusta-Column vertically plumb between footing pad and load carrying beam. Adjust so column is snug and secure.
  4. Attach column to beam by method dependent on style of cap plate and code requirements.
  • Clip Tab Cap
Bend tabs with hammer around lower flange of steel beam
  • 4x8 Cap Plate
(Wood Beam) Stablilize column by using 16 D nails in two 1/4" nail holes provided. Finish securing by installing 3/8" x 2" lag bolts with flat washers in four 9/16" holes provided.

(Steel Beams) Drill four 9/16" holes in bottom flange of beam. To match hole pattern in cap-plate, install four 1/2" x 2" hardened bolts, nuts, flat and lock washers. Tighten bolts evenly until secure.
  • Universal Combination Cap
Use same methods as suggested above depending on whether a steel or wood beam is used.
